USADF C.A.R.E.S COVID-19 RESPONSE
For the millions of people USADF serves in Africa, the socioeconomic impact of COVID-19 is frightful in its potential lasting effects. Many of our grantees are marginalized, impoverished, and reside in some of the most underserved communities in the world. However, throughout USADF's 40-year history, we have developed an agile, responsive, and innovative development model, enabling us to address local challenges in a timely and sustainable manner. And the current challenges are no different.
In 2020, USADF’s COVID-19 response provided $5.24 million to 455 community enterprises in 27 African countries.
A key component of the response was the USADF Capital for African Resilience-building and Enterprises Support (C.A.R.E.S) program, through which we provided approximately $3 million for over 330 grantees to handle immediate business continuity needs. We also committed an additional $2 million for activities needed to fight the pandemic’s effects and allowed for the amendment of grant agreements so community organizations, enterprises, and entrepreneurs could pivot projects to be responsive to COVID-19 challenges and opportunities.
