A Mandate to Build
African Development Institutions
“The purposes of the Foundation shall be … to encourage the establishment and growth of development institutions which are indigenous to particular countries in Africa and which can respond to the requirements of the poor in those countries.”
— African Development Foundation Act
Long-term development success in Africa requires a lasting and influential presence of local development expertise and capabilities. Every year, USADF invests a significant portion of our program resources into developing a pan-African network of 100% local partners who use a community-led development approach to support African-designed and African delivered solutions. This model for development supports greater levels of ownership in solutions that achieve lasting impact.
